What’s New in Public Health and Careers?

National Public Health Coaliation

August was Group B Strep Awareness and National Immunization Awareness Month. The National Public Health Information Coalition promotes information to the public about immunizations. The coalition is supporting national immunization awareness month with a 2018 toolkit with current vaccine information. Check it out here: https://www.nphic.org/niam/ learn about vaccines from back to school to adults. There are career opportunities, mostly in communications https://www.nphic.org/members-area/tools/career-opportunities?start=10.

Public Health Careers for Research Trainees

If you are interested in more public health opportunities, then consider joining the American Public Health Association. The nice thing about public health careers is that all biomedical science areas will find some aspect of public health to relate to. Learn about current issues related to policy. Access factsheets to support your research for presentations. There PhD jobs on the bottom of the front page, Current jobs at the time of this post include assistant professor positions, postdoctoral scholar, methodologists, teaching, and health research associate positions https://apha.org/. We believe in engaging in associations in your industry. Our industry specific courses suggest associations to join before applying to jobs. As you can see, associations are a source of job announcements related to your area of interests. Often announcements are listed in association before other places.

American Public Health Association Fellowships

We do like that the American Public Health Association has a location for internships. Internships are offered in government relations, public health policy, health education, and communications. Internships are for graduate students and postgraduate degree students. A fellowship is also listed, the APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government. Fellowships are typically longer than internships. Fellowships can be 1-2 years and internships are typically 3-6 months. Fellowships and internships can be found here: https://apha.org/professional-development/apha-internships-and-fellowships
